Second
& Third Mate -Any Gross Tons--Near
Coastal/Oceans
This self-paced license
exam prep course is designed for the applicant testing for a
raise-in-grade or those coming up through the hawse pipe. This
course covers the six test modules in the USCG exam.
Course Duration: 6-8 weeks.
Master/Mate
- 200 - 1600 Ton Inspected Vessels, Fishing Industry Vessels, Towing
Vessels--Inland/
Near Coastal/ Oceans.
This self-paced license
exam prep course is designed for the applicant testing for the above
licenses. This course covers all the required test modules for the
Rules of the Road, Chart Navigation, Navigation General, Deck, and
Safety as administered in the USCG exam.
Course Duration: 6-8 weeks
*Master
or Mate 25-100 Ton -
Inland or
Near Coastal
This self-paced approved course covers the required USCG subject
areas such as: Rules of the Road, Chart Navigation
covers related nautical publications, chart reading, compass,
time-speed & distance calculations, ETA’s, CMG/SMG, types of fixes,
finding the set and drift of the current, checking the deviation
table on a range, finding a course to steer with a known set &
drift, and computing the height of the tide and velocity of the
tidal current. Navigation General covers related background
information used in conjunction with the actual chart work.
Deck/Safety covers marlinspike seamanship, boat handling,
anchoring emergency procedure, ship construction, first aid, life
saving, fire fighting. stability, rules and regulations.

This self-paced approved
course covers the same subject areas as stated above for the Masters
license with a lesser degree of difficulty in the Deck/Safety area.

This self-paced approved
course covers a basic introduction to the Rules of Road,
navigational publications, weather, marlinspike seamanship, boat
handling, anchoring, emergency procedures, and safety related
subjects for river guides and tour boats operating in the waters
other than Columbia River and tributaries, and inside coastal
bar ports of Oregon and Washington under the jurisdiction the Marine
Safety Office, Portland, Oregon.
Course Duration: 5 days

*Celestial
Navigation
This self-paced approved course covers
such subject areas as full sight observation of Moon, stars,
planets, and the Sun; zone time calculations of LAN, sunrise-sunset,
moonrise-moonset; amplitudes and azimuths to check deviation or gyro
error; use of the Rude Starfinder, Latitude by Polaris and Local
Apparent Noon (LAN), running fixes, voyage planning, and the
Sailings (Parallel, Mid-Latitude, Mercator, and Great-Circle).
Completion of this course meets USCG requirements for license
applicants who want to add the “Oceans” endorsement on their
license. In addition, this a necessary prerequisite course for 2nd
and 3rd mates setting for their license.
Course Duration: 3˝ weeks.

*Flashing
Light
This approved course meets the
STCW requirements. Students learn the morse code alphabet and
numerals 0-9. The final exam consists of being able to receive,
record, and decode flashing light signals from the International
Code of Signals Pub 102 at the rate of 4 words per minute (WPM).
Course Duration: 1 day. for
testing purposes only. Each student must practice at his/her own
pace to be able to pass the final examination.
*Rules
of the Road
This approved in
depth course is for licenses 200 ton and below, fishing, towing and
OUPV that require the applicant to pass this exam in lieu of testing
at the Coast Guard. This same course is a part of any of the above
approved licenses courses, or license exam prep.
Course Duration: 5 days

Able-Bodied Seaman
This exam prep
course combines formal classroom training and knot tying to cover
the examination requirements at the USCG.
Course
Duration: 10 days
This course does not meet the requirements for Lifeboatman.
Those aspiring for an Unlimited AB ticket will still be required to
take and pass the 70 question Lifeboatman exam at the USCG REC.
In addition, this course does not meet the requirements for
Practical Assessment for Lifeboatman or Survival Craft. These
assessments may be accomplished in accordance with IAW NMC Policy
Letter No. 8-01 dated 6 April 2001.

NOTE:
All approved courses will test at Fryar’s
Maritime. Upon successful completion of the course, a Certificate of
Completion will be given to the student to present to the USCG REC.
The certificate is good for one (01) year from the date of
completion. |
